Lacing activities-1

We  have few materials for lacing but  using corrugated card board was fun for kindergarten. I used  my daughter's clay art tool  for making holes in the card board and old cardigan yarn for lacing. Once they knew the pattern  the result was quick. They also learnt to thread the needle.

                                                                     

                                                        

Teaching English Alphabets-to beginners

 I teach  phonics first before the names of the alphabets. I chose phonic song A is for Apple by A.J.Jenkins and made a chart with the picture same as in the song. The chart is pasted on the wall and children easily touch, show and sing. We also sing Ants on the Apple.

Now, children  sing the phonic song  without the help of  the audio and visual aid. I made a complete set of sand paper letters for tracing. Children write in sand and flour trays for practice.

The puzzles below have numbers on one side and alphabets on the other. I pasted the puzzle picture on the basket just in case they need solution.

Children enjoy placing  the same kind of  large movable alphabets as written on the card. The cards are made of corrugated cardboard. I made all the c v c (consonant vowel consonant) series using the large movable alphabets. This is only for letter recognition and not for spellings.

The upper and lower case letters are  pasted  little higher than the child's height as there was no space below. I use the words small and big for lower and uppercase letters.

Singing phonic song and tracing sandpaper letters is fun for children except writing. In Nepal Nursery children must learn to read and write both the lower and uppercase letters before they are upgraded to Lower Kindergarten. It is a pressure for the children as well as the teachers. I feel every activity in the classroom must be an  enjoyable event for children.
