My voice

While I was making these hats I wondered if I am overdoing this kind of activities like -making teaching materials, giving to children, taking photographs and posting. But it’s my heart which says continue and don't stop. It’s my recently developed passion and I am enjoying every bit of it. I thank my preschoolers who are always hungry for new activities.

In Nepal we have course books for preschoolers. We are confined to these books and try to complete the course on time. We even mark them fail and do not upgrade them. I did the same until recently when I started my own preschool.

I remember I had 38 preschoolers to handle all by myself and even if I had made these kind of materials it won't have being possible in such a large group.

Right now I have pressure from parents who want their children get through reputed schools in Kathmandu. There are coaching centers running classes for entrance exam in grade one. I feel they are teaching more than what a child would learn in grade one.

As for me I feel preschoolers mean getting ready for school and not learning grade one course.

Well I am trying to make few changes even if small to make each child’s moment here in the preschool enjoyable and memorable.

Making Sentences

I am  glad I  introduced Dr. Seuss books to children in the school. I overheard them  keeping  track of the books they read. Now they are learning to make sentences from these books. I made few word cards-large ones for the titles and small ones for the sentences. They look in the basket for a sheet with sentences written on it.

Later they will learn to put correct sentence cards under the correct title cards. For this they need to read the books thoroughly.

I am adding U KG activities  related to the book-"My Foot Book". They traced their feet, outlined with board marker, cut the shape and wrote opposite words with colored sketch pens. They giggled while I traced their feet.

Dr. Seuss books

This is the first time ever  I am using Dr. Seuss books  in the school. Playgroup enjoyed listening to Green Eggs and Ham. Ham is a new word for all the children here in the school. For the Nursery I made felt green eggs number matching and felt green egg whites matching. I stuffed felt pieces while making green eggs and blanket stitched.

L KG made a egg shaped booklet. Teacher traced the template and children cut the shape and searched for rhyming words from the book Green Eggs And Ham.  They  have  c-v-c booklet  made earlier but this has  few  longer words. The only problem during making of this booklet was that they had just one book.

U KG drew hat using the template I made for them. They searched   for  rhyming words
from different books by Dr. Seuss.  They have reading session in the afternoon and its fun to see them wear hats and read.

I would love to read more of  Dr. Seuss books to children  in the school. I do  not want to put too much burden on children so we will do more fun activities related to the stories.
